The sun is shining.

Good afternoon, my honorable judges and dear friends! It's my great pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. Today I'm going to talk about Module 3 Unit 1 The sun is shining. in New Standard English Book 8 . I'll say the lesson from five parts.

Part 1 Analysis of the Teaching Material Ⅰ Contents and function

First, let me talk about the teaching material. The first aspect is contents and function. This lesson is for the students of Grade 6. The key point of this unit is the usage of Present Continuous Tense. It's presented by the letter and photos which Daming sent to Lingling. The study of the lesson will help the students with daily munication to describe the happening scenes in the photos (pictures).

Ⅱ Analysis of the students The students of Grade 6 have mastered some words and expressions. Most of them can describe things with some simple sentences. However, they have so few chances to speak English outside the classroom. Therefore, some of them are reluctant to speak English actively. So, to create some real situations for the students to arouse their interest is necessary.

Ⅲ Teaching Aims

For the students of Grade 6, we should develop their ability of reading prehension. English curriculum standard has pointed out the requirement for Primary school: Enable the students to read the simple stories or passages with the help of pictures. And get the students to form the habit of reading in context. So I put forward the teaching aims according to the children's situations and new lesson standard.

The teaching aims include three aspects: 1. Aims on the knowledge: a. Get the students to master the following words: shine, funny, photo, everyone.

b. Get the students to master the following sentence patterns:

I'm sending some photos. In the photo, the sun is shining. The birds are singing in the trees. 2. Aims on the learning abilities: a. Ask the students to retell the text with the help of pictures and key words.

b. Ask the students to describe the happening scenes in the photos correctly and smartly. 3. Aims on the emotions:

a. Guide the students to speak English boldly and cooperate effectively.

b. Guide the students to find the beauty of life and cherish the life.

Ⅳ Teaching focus and difficulties 1. Teaching focus

Next, I'll talk about the teaching focus and difficulties of this lesson. First , the teaching focus of this lesson is to understand the new words and structures in the context; to get the information from the text and retell the text. 2. Teaching difficulties

As for the teaching difficulties, the students can use the sentence patterns of Present Continuous Tense to describe the photos correctly and smartly.

Part 2 Teaching and Learning Methods

Well, how to achieve the teaching aims better, to stress the focus and break through the difficulties? The key is how to make use of the proper teaching methods. So, I'll talk about my teaching methods below. 1. Teaching Methods

It is well-known that, everything in English teaching is for the development of the students. And the main instructional aim of learning English in primary school is to cultivate pupils' prehensive abilities of using language. In order to get the students to take part in the study positively, I'll use the Situational Language Teaching, the Total Physical Response teaching method and Task-based learning. At the same time, I'll use CAI and kinds of teaching means to arouse the students'

interest in learning English. 2. Learning Methods

To cultivate the students' abilities of using language is very important for the students of Grade 6. So the students will municate in the real situations, finish the tasks to get the information from the context. Moreover, they should cooperate with their partners to work more effectively.

Part 3 Teaching Procedures

Now I'll show the teaching procedures of this lesson.

Tolstoy once said: Interest is a powerful driving force to motivate the students to learn. And the English teaching in primary school should prepare for the next study actively. These two points are my design concepts in this lesson. I'll finish this lesson in five steps.

Step 1 Warm up a. At the beginning of the class, I'll greet the students warmly and talk about the weather with them. The relaxing free talk will provide a happy atmosphere in the class. Meanwhile, this step will lead to the title of this lesson naturally: The sun is shining. For the word shine, my body language is helpful. It will leave a deep impression on the students.

b. Then I'll invite the students to do some sports with me on this beautiful day. I'll present some pictures and a chant on the screen. And do the TPR with the students. This step makes the students relaxed and excited enough to join the activities and at the same time it provides situations to review Present Continuous Tense----the key point of the lesson. And this step also helps the students to understand the word everyone in the context.

Step 2 Presentation

Now I'll mainly talk about this step.

a. After warming up, I'll tell the students that I'm very happy because I've got an email from my friend. The screen shows the email which includes some sentences in this lesson. For example, I'm sending some photos. I miss everyone in Jiaozuo. They paved

the way for further study. Then I'll ask a student to read the email for me and lead to some funny photos. I take Xiao Shenyang for an example to explain the word funny vividly.

b. Then we enjoy the photos together. The students' impression of the word funny will be strengthened by these funny photos. At the same time, I ask them: What's the ... doing? to review the Present Continuous Tense naturally. The purposeful activity prepares for the next study effectively.

C. From these funny photos, I lead in Daming's funny day naturally. We should attach importance to the integrity of language in the reading instruction. So I play the tape and get the students to perceive the meaning of the whole passage. I also raised two questions to help the students understand the text:

1. What did Daming do on Saturday? 2. What are the ducks doing? Listening to the tape with questions doesn't only stimulate the students' interest in reading, but also cultivating their ability to understand the language they've learnt. For a long training in this way, the students' listening abilities will be improved.

Step 3 Practice

a. After the first listening, the students imitate the text after the tape. In this process, they will master the detailed information in the text. After that, I ask the students to close books and do some exercises. On the screen, I show the task Read and Judge to check the students' understanding of the text. b. How to understand the text fully? Reading, of course! Then I get the students to read the text by themselves. And I present the pictures and some key words for them to retell the text. First, several students retell the text. Then all the students do that together. Meanwhile, I write the sentences on the blackboard. By this way, the students' ability of summarizing information will be cultivated. On the other hand, they will practise the oral expressions.

Step 4 Production

The substance of language is munication and the environment of munication is life. How can I change the class into life? I ask some real photos in life for help. I show the photos to the students on the screen. Then I hold a group activity, asking each group to choose one photo and discuss in groups. Of course, I'll make an example and provide some guidance if they have any difficulty. After that, each group should describe the photo they choose. By this, they will cooperate in groups and municate between groups. From these photos, the students will understand the beauty in life. At this time, I'll guide the students to remember:Share our photos, cherish our life.

Step 5 Homework

Is this the end of the class? No, I don't think so. If there is an end, I think it should be the life. So I extend this class, asking the students to describe their favorite photos in their home for homework. In this way, the students can use the language they learned to municate in their life.

Part 4 Blackboard Design

As a refinement of teaching content, writing on the blackboard should be able to focus on the main message so that the students can catch the key points clearly. In the blackboard design, I used the illustrated approach to present two main elements: words and main structures.

1, the sun is shining. The birds are singing in the trees. In photo 2, it is raining. They are under the tree. 3, the ducks are eating the picnic. (Notes: The underlined parts will be replaced by pictures.)

Part 5 Teaching Reflection In a word, the whole period is based on the students' interests, which is built from the real situations and effective

activities. When the students are learning with deep interest, they can acquire information and knowledge quickly, and have their abilities and skills trained.
